Job Title:  Maintenance Technician
* 4 positions available
Salary:  $14.99 - $17.61 per hour ($31,172 - $36,627 per annum)
Reports to:  Maintenance Manager
Supervises:  Not a Supervisory position.

Summary: Under general supervision, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled work to construct, remodel, and/or maintain Community facilities and residences. This is treated as a non-exempt position.

Minimum Qualifications: Experience equivalent to two years full time general building maintenance or closely related skilled trades work and two years of experience in the HVAC field (R-410a systems) or equivalent training. Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license and be able to meet the Community’s insurance carrier requirements (see list on website or attached to application.) Must successfully complete and pass a background check.

Universal EPA refrigerant certification and experience in R-410a systems is highly preferred.

Hiring Preference: The Community affords Indian Preference and Veterans' preference. In applying Indian Preference, preference will be given to qualified Community members, then to qualified Native Americans, and then other qualified candidates. Except as otherwise stated herein, all candidates will receive consideration without regard to race, color, sex, age, disability, religion, national origin, or other non-merit factor. Applicants wishing to claim Indian Preference must submit a Certificate of Indian Blood or proof of tribal enrollment at the time of application. Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Performs skilled work in a variety of construction trades, including carpentry, masonry, plumbing, and electrical, to construct, remodel, and/or maintain Community facilities and residences.
  2. Maintains preventative maintenance schedules and procedures for all HVAC equipment, including changing of filters and cleaning condensors and coils.
  3. Reads/interprets and follows plans, blueprints, and sketches of proposed construction/remodel projects.
  4. Installs/repairs plumbing fixtures, doors, and windows.
  5. Builds shelving.
  6. Forms/finishes concrete projects.
  7. Performs a variety of manual and semi-skilled activities associated with gas and water/wastewater line maintenance/construction, including locating gas or water/wastewater lines, and tapping gas and water/wastewater main lines.
  8. Operates a variety of medium construction equipment, including backhoe, front end loader, and dump truck, as needed.
  9. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Other Requirements:

  • Knowledge of materials, practices, and equipment used in gas and water/wastewater system maintenance/construction activities.
  • Knowledge of the elements of construction technology as they relate to the assigned construction, remodel, or maintenance projects.
  • Knowledge of HVAC repairs and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of test equipment, such as meters, manifold gauges, pressure temperature charts, vacuum pumps and recovery units and procedures.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions for operating construction equipment.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods and materials used in facilities maintenance work.
  • Knowledge of a variety of construction trades practices and techniques, including carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical.
  • Skill in reading and understanding blueprints, construction drawings, and sketches used for construction, remodel, and maintenance projects.
  • Skill in understanding and following oral and written instructions.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other Community employees and the public.
  • Skill in operating and maintaining assigned power equipment.
